University of the Incarnate Word is a world renowned, private, Catholic Liberal Arts University in the Alamo Heights neighborhood of San Antonio, Texas. Surrounded by many apartments it's a great university for San Antonio Apartment-ites to enhance their education.
With campus extensions in the Peoples Republic of China where it is known as "China Incarnate Word and in Mexico where it is known as "Centro Universitario Incarnate Word," UIW is
quite the worldwide school.
The largest Catholic University and the 4th largest private University in the State of Texas, the University began as "Incarnate Word School" in 1881 and was originally a women's only school. It was finally recognized as a full-fledged University in 1996 and the name was changed from College of the Incarnate Word to University of the Incarnate Word.
Admission
To be admitted to UIW, you must have a minimum SAT score of 850 (Verbal/Math) or ACT score of 17. It would also be helpful in encouraging admission to have a 3.0 or better GPA. In addition to your scores, you will be evaluated based on your personal recommendations and your extracurricular activities. UIW practices what is called "Rolling Admission" meaning that you can apply for University admission anytime during the year. However, since financial aid is given on a first come first serve basis, timely completion of the application is highly recommended.
The University offers 53 undergraduate degree programs, in everything from Accounting to Nuclear Medicine Science. 29 graduate degree programs are offered, many of them with online or distance courses available. For those seeking a PHD, there is also a PHD program for education with concentrations in higher education, mathematics education and organizational leadership.
Cost
The cost of the University is based on your tuition and Fees, whether you are a resident or not, whether you choose to live on campus or whether you choose to live off campus and commute. For a semester in 2008, tuition and fees would be just under $10,000.
Calculating your approximate cost will also require you to figure in your room and board expenses. If you choose not to live in your own off-campus apartments and in one of UIW regulated residencies, you may pay anywhere from $1700-$2700 per semester depending on your living choices.

Meal Plans
If you live on campus, you can buy a meal plan. Plan B is $1450 per semester. Plan C, which is only available to upperclassmen is $850 a semester. The yearly estimate for tuition and fees, living on campus in a regular residence hall with a plan B meal program is $23,120 dollars a year. If you choose to live off of campus, San Antonio offers a wide variety of apartments to choose from at affordable prices. San Antonio is a very active vibrant city, offering its inhabitants access to parks, restaraunts, sports recreation, music and many cultural events.
Sports
UIW offers 9 mens and 10 women's division II sports programs. The men's and women's soccer team is nationally recognized and in 2009, the UIW Cardinals will be playing football for the first time. Volleyball, men's and women's swimming, and baseball help to create a competitive well rounded university, that after over 100 years is still making an impact in the San Antonio area.

Many students choose to live in one of the many San Antonio apartments in the area near the university. The benefits and freedom of living in your own place and not having to have as many rules as you do living on campus, makes apartment living while you are in school AWESOME!
