This prestigious private University in the heart of San Antonio was founded in 1852 by a group of Catholic priests and nuns called the Marianists. They were responding to the call of their superiors to build a University that would educate a population that they saw as backwards and ignorant. Today, the University is known throughout the Southwest for its service to San Antonio and the rest of the Southwest, for it's academic programs, and the service mindedness of it's faculty, administration, staff and students. Today, the school serves approximately 2,400 undergraduates and 1,500 post graduate students. Undergraduates have 4 schools with over 100 majors to choose from. The Bill Greehey school of Business, The school of Humanities and Social Sciences, The school of Science, Engineering and Technology and Pre-Professional programs.
If you are interested in attending St. Mary's University, and you are going to be a freshman this year, or you are going to be transferring into the the University, you will want to pay attention to this. Your minimum SAT score must be at least 1220. Your ACT must be at least 27. You must declare a business major and as part of the enrollment process, you must complete four essays and participate in the on campus interview. Freshmen and transfer students also have the option of applying for the Bill Greehey business scholarship, which comes highly recommended by the University. A scholarship committee meets and either grants acceptance, puts students on a wait list, or denies the scholarship. In addition to the scholarship, there is a wealth of federal financial aid available to incoming freshmen and transfer students.
If you decide to live on campus, St Mary's has eleven halls to choose from. Freshmen are assigned to live in either, Dougherty Hall, Our Lady of Lourdes Hall or Marian Hall. If you are a transfer student, you can choose to live in one of the other halls or live off campus. All of the dorms are Coed by floor. One of the advantages of living on campus is that you are only a short distance from the Riverwalk, The Alamo, The San Antonio Zoo, and many other attractions. If you however decide to commute, you have the advantage of a vast array of apartments and housing to choose from.
If you are interested in Athletics, the school is Division II in these sports: Baseball, Basketball, Softball, and Golf. In addition to these, the school also competes with major Universities in these sports: Volleyball, Soccer and Tennis.
